John Fritzell Named Finalist
The North Dakota State University Press named, on April 27th, Appleton poet John Fritzell as one of eleven finalists in its 2020 Poetry of the Plains and Prairies Chapbook Award. Mr. Fritzell's entry is titled "Last Missile."
Carolyn A. Dahl's "A Muddy Kind of Love" won the award on May 12th. We congratulate her. The NDSU Press will publish Ms. Dahl's chapbook in the fall, and she will receive ten copies of the chapbook in addition to a discount on additional copies. National distribution in a limited edition also goes with the award.
We here at the Mill congratulate Mr. Fritzell for his achievement. To be a finalist in such a contest is itself worthy of acclamation. Last fall, he was a student in the Mill's chapbook class taught by Karla Huston. Ms. Huston is a former Poet Laureate of Wisconsin. Mr. Fritzell has published poetry in Plainsongs, Cottonwood Magazine, Tiny Seed, Red Eft Review, and Gray’s Sporting Journal.
