Karla Huston Night!

Mark your calendars: Monday, January 11th, at 7:00 p.m., Karla Huston will be the featured reader in Poetry Unlocked's monthly poetry reading, the first of the new year. Since Covid-19, the organization's poetry readings are virtual (see Zoom link that follows), and Ms. Huston will offer a few poems in this special night of poetry. After her reading, an open mic follows. Poetry Unlocked asks attendees to share one of their favorite poems by Karla or to recite one inspired by her work or teaching. To participate in this part of the event, you will need to sign up in advance by emailing poetryunlockedAppleton@gmail.com.
Karla Huston, Wisconsin Poet Laureate (2017-2018), has an MA in English/Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She was also the co-founder and vice president of The Mill and is presently Board Member Emeritus. Last summer, she and her husband moved to California to be closer to family.
Huston authored a full collection of poems, A Theory of Lipstick (Main Street Rag Publications, 2013), which won an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Library Association (the title poem won Pushcart’s Best of the Small Presses Award in 2011). She has published eight chapbooks of poetry, most recently Grief Bone (Five Oaks Press, 2017). Huston is a former member of the board of directors for the Council for Wisconsin Writers and is also a member of the authors’ committee for the Fox Cities Book Festival. Her poems, reviews, and interviews have appeared in many regional and national journals.
