"Northern Portrait": Hildebrand Chapbook Published
Mill Board member and student, Fredric Hildebrand, has published a new chapbook entitled "Northern Portrait" ($16, 36 pgs., now available at Kelsay Books or Amazon). A second chapbook, "A Glint of Light" ($14.99, 36 pgs., Finishing Line Press), which we reported on here, will come out in November.
Hildebrand's poetry has appeared in several literary journals, among them Bramble, Right Hand Pointing, The Raven Review, and the Amethyst Review. You can also take a sip of his poetry at his website. A drop from "A Funeral": In the twilight a church bell / tolls for the neighbor’s son. / Nearby a weathered shed, / a broken farmer unable / to speak of grief. What understated pathos those words have.
Mr. Hildebrand is a retired cardiologist and lives with his wife and their two Labradors in Neenah, Wisconsin. He's been writing poetry since his retirement in 2017. Along with Peggy Turnbull and John Fritzell, he took The Mill's chapbook class offered by former Mill Board member, Karla Huston. Both Ms. Turnbull and Mr. Hildebrand have published chapbooks since then, and John Fritzell's chapbook was a finalist in North Dakota State University Press's 2020 Poetry of the Plains and Prairies Chapbook Award.
